Adding to Some Great Collections

In the past couple years it’s happened a few times, where studios decide to add another installment to a collection.  In 2011 Wes Craven added Scream 4 to the anthology of the classic scary movies of the 90’s.  Just recently, in February of this year, they added another Die Hard movie to the collection.  And now in June of 2014 there will be a fourth addition to the Jurassic Park Collection with Jurassic Park IV.  Personally I will most likely have to see all of these additions because the originals are some of my favorite movies, but realistically when will it stop.  The first 3 Die Hard movies were the greatest and I thought the fourth was okay but even then they were pushing it.  Scream 4 however, was in fact a good addition to the collection with an amazing good cast of characters and plot twist, as usual.  I am curious to see what the fourth Jurassic Park movie will bring to the table.

Top 15 Kids Movies of the 90's

This is a list of the top movies that I grew up watching.

1.       Mrs. Doubtfire- who doesn’t love Robin Williams in general and even though pretty much every movie that he stars in is amazing this is one of his best.  Classic story line and great cast in this movie.  It’s a movie that will make you laugh and cry, but doesn’t let you down with a happy ending.

2.       Home Alone- “This is my house, I have to defend it.”  Who didn’t love this movie growing up?  A kid gets left behind when his family leaves on vacation and takes down two robbers with all kinds of cleverness and creativity.

3.       Problem Child- Another great kid’s movie.  John Ritter is an amazing actor and the little kid in this movie is classic, although a little creepy now a days.

4.       Hook- Great family movie altogether, another great Robin Williams movie.  Fun fact about this movie is that Glenn Close plays a small part in this movie and no one even realizes it.  If you know this movie she plays the man on the deck of the ship that gets put into the little box.

5.       Blank Check-One of my all-time favorite’s right here, who didn’t wish this, happened to them as a kid.  Get a bunch of money, buy a mansion, and fill it with cool toys and stuff.
6.       3 Ninjas- I know after seeing this all I wanted to do was become a ninja.  This movie had all of the action and other cool stuff for kids growing up at this time frame.
7.       Space Jam- The Looney Tunes and Michael Jordan teaming up to make an amazing basketball movie.
8.       Kindergarten Cop- This movie is amazing because it’s Arnold Schwarzenegger playing a kindergarten teacher and a cop at the same time.
9.       Rookie of the Year – This movie has a great cast and it’s about a kid who breaks his arm and gets a chance to play major league baseball, who doesn’t love a comeback story.
10.   The Sandlot – “You’re killing me smalls.”  Greatest kid’s sports movie ever, great cast of kids and the story line of the entire movie is classic and extremely well thought out.
11.   Dennis the Menace – I loved this movie as a kid, the trouble maker who drives everyone on the street crazy.
12.   The Mighty Ducks - Emilio Estevez to Joshua Jackson great cast of characters.  The story of a team of screw ups who come out on top.
13.   It Takes Two – Everyone loves the Olsen Twins regardless of what they say.  This movie has the Olsen twins before they discovered drugs.  The story line is amazing and the characters are people everyone loves.

14.   The Little Giants – Another great kids’ sports movie that everyone loved when I was growing up.
15.   Liar Liar – One of Jim Carrey’s best, besides Ace Ventura, I’d say this is one of my favorites of his.

Coming to a theater near you

I started watching that new show, Bates Motel and it is actually a pretty good show.  It’s the prequel to the movie Psycho and it actually does Alfred Hitchcock justice.  I have only seen two episodes so far, but it seems to be getting good.

I can’t wait for the new Sandra Bullock movie, The Heat.  Sandra Bullock is my all time favorite actress.  She does a phenomenal job acting any part and she is hilarious.  The movie is sort of like Miss Congeniality where she plays a cop and something out of the ordinary happens.  Miss Congeniality was a great comedy movie and I feel that this one will be just as good.  The movie is in theaters on June 28th.

Movies That Come Out Today (3/22/13)

Out of all of the movies that are playing in theaters right now, the top two that I would see have to be Olympus Has Fallen and Admission.  Both of these arrive in theaters today Friday March, 22 2013.

Olympus Has Fallen seems like an action packed, movie that is sure to grip your attention the entire way through.  It seems to have a good story line and who doesn’t love a movie with Gerard Butler in it.  Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman are also both amazing actors that are taking part in this movie.

Admission seems to be one of those “feel good” comedies that we all know and love.  Tina Fey and Paul Rudd seem to be a good match of comedic skill and style.  They seem to complement each other and make this movie extremely funny.

Bates Motel

My blog this week is about the new series that is going to start on A&E.  It begins March 18 at 10/9c.  The new series is called Bates Motel, and it is the prequel to one of the ultimate best horror films of all time, Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 film, Psycho.  If you don’t know the film Psycho, than you should probably look into watching it.  It’s the story of Norman Bates a hotel manager who stalks and kills visitors to his motel.  It is a movie that set the stage for all horror films in general.  This series is meant to be a prequel, which means it is supposed to set the stage for the movie.  The series is said to look into the events that led up to Norman Bates becoming the crazed psycho he was.

Psycho is one of my all-time favorite horror movies so I am entirely interested to see if this series will prove to be just as good.  This is a link to the A&E website that shows more details about the series.

TOMANETTI'S TOP TEN MOVIES

I wanted to do something different than what I normally do for this blog entry, so I decided to do a top ten list.  I work at a pizza shop with a few of my friends and we all love movies, so I figured for this entry I would ask them to pick their top two favorite movies and then choose a favorite quote from each.  This is what they came up with:

TOMANETTI'S TOP TEN LIST
ANDREA’S PICKS:
“Nobody puts baby in the corner.”
“Our love fern… you killed it!”

CRAIG’S PICKS:
“Whoa. Wait a minute, Doc.  Are you trying to tell me that my mother has got the hots for me?”
“This is my house, I have to defend it.”

JASON’S PICK:
“Jamie: Why don’t they ever make a movie about what happens after they kiss?”
“Dylan: They do, it’s called porn.”
“Never forget where you came from.”

TINA’S PICKS:
“I’ve always dreamed that my life could be like a fairy tale, a perfect fantasy.”
“I shall call him squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my squishy.  Come on, squishy come on, little squishy.”

MY PICKS:
“Irv, I swear we weren’t even in isle 7.”
“Oh sure, It’s just like driving a really big Pinto.”

“Our love fern… you killed it!”

Old and New

Today, on my drive to school, I noticed that the theater in my hometown, The Oaks, is playing an all-time classic, Casablanca.  It is showing at 11 am on Saturday February 9.  Casablanca is one of those movies that everyone should see in their lifetime.  This movie was rated the number 3 greatest movie of all time, by the American Film Institute in 2007.  The movie holds of the 100 Greatest Movie Lines, according to Premiere in 2007, of “Here’s looking at you, kid.”  If you haven’t seen it you should stop by and check it out, it’s directed by Michael Curtiz and stars Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.

FOX has a new television show that seems to show potential.  The Following is a show about a serial killer and a detective’s hunt for him.  Even though it seems to be like every other crime drama out there is has its own twists and unforeseen turn of events.  The show starts Kevin Bacon and Shawn Ashmore.
